St. John Chrysostom
He was born in Antioch of noble parents: his
father was a high-ranking military officer.
He
became a hermit in 375 and then a deacon
in 381 by St. Meletius of Antioch. In 386
he was ordained a priest and in 398 he was
called to be a Patriarch of Constantinople.
He was always remembered on speaking
plainly and applying Bible passages and
lessons to everyday life and preaching the
beauty of Monastic life. St. John wrote and
harmonized the Divine Liturgy, which is
used by the entire Orthodox Church today.
St. John was 49 years old
when he became Patriarch of
Constantinople.
The Saint died on September
14th in the year 407 in the city
Comene.
Saint John  re-directed much
of the wealth of the Church to
assist the poor, establish
monasteries, support
hospitals and house the
homeless.
St. John originally studied
Law, but after his baptism at
the age of 23, St. John
Decided to dedicate his life to
our Lord Jesus Christ.
