JESUS CHRIST is the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, eternally born of the Father. He
became man, and thus He is at once fully God and fully man. His coming to earth was foretold
in the Old Testament by the prophets. Because Jesus Christ is at the heart of Christianity, the
Orthodox Church has given more attention to knowing Him than to anything or anyone else.
In reciting the Nicene Creed, Orthodox Christians regularly affirm the historic faith concerning
Jesus as they say, "I believe... in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the only begotten,
begotten of the Father before all ages, Light of Light, true God of true God; begotten, not
made; of one essence with the Father; by Whom all things were made; Who for us men and
for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin
Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and
was buried; and the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures; and ascended into
heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again with glory to judge
the living and the dead; Whose kingdom shall have no end."
Some claim that Jesus is not as Great and powerful as God the Father. Let us show how the
Lord Jesus Christ is the Almighty God.
Note: Everyone will agree that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has many names such as: Lord,
Son of Man, Son of God, Redeemer, Saviour, Lamb, the Word, etc.
If you read the Old Testament (Isaiah 42-8) you will clearly see that there is only one Lord and
his Glory will not given to any one else (Isaiah 42-8 I am the Lord and this is my name and my
Glory will not be given to anyone else.) Since, as indicated elsewhere this Glory is given to
Jesus, then Jesus must be God.
In Isaiah we also read: (Isaiah, chapter 45-21: Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them
take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that
time? have not I the LORD? And there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Savior; there
is none beside me) you can see that there are one God only and no else beside Him and He is
Just God, and Savior.
Let us combine what Isaiah has said with the following Scripture. In Revelation, chapter 5 13:
And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are
in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power,
be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb (Christ) for ever and ever.
As you can see the Lord Jesus Christ (Lamb) is given equal Glory as God the Father from every
creature "which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the
sea, and all that are in them”.
Then Saint Jude says in chapter 1-25 To the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty,
dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
As you can see our (Savior) Lord Jesus Christ is the only God and He is our Savior. Remember
what God said in Isaiah, chapter 45-21: have not I the LORD? And there is no God else beside
me; a just God and a Savior; there is none beside me) so if Christ He is the only God then the
Scripture is telling us that He is God and the Father is God and the Holy Spirit is God (the Holy
Trinity) and these three are ONE. Let’s read few other verses that show the Divinity of Christ
our God.
1 Peter, chapter 4-11 that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be
praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
2 Peter, chapter 3-18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ. To Him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
Can you see what Peter said about Christ our God? I just want you to read this one more time
(Isaiah 42-8 I am the Lord and this is my name and my Glory will not be given to anyone else).
If you have any doubt lets read these verses:
1 Corinthians, chapter 2 8: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known
it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
Please notice this verse is one of the most important verses shows the Divinity of Christ in
particularly when the Holy Book call Him the Lord of glory and you know what God said in the
Old Testament (Isaiah 42-8) I am the Lord and this is my name and my Glory will not be given
to anyone else).
Jesus Christ, the Lord of Glory
